Short answer: Medical, specialist and allied health suites in Spring Hill and South Brisbane need regular, after-hours cleaning of waiting rooms, reception, touch points, bathrooms, staff areas and floors, set up around the practice's own infection prevention procedures. We clean weekly or more often, bring our own equipment and products, follow your access and alarm procedures, and are fully insured and police-checked. Clinical tasks and clinical waste stay with your staff. Your first clean is free, then one flat monthly price.
Spring Hill, around Wickham Terrace, has long been one of Brisbane's medical precincts, and South Brisbane is home to the Mater hospitals and many specialist and allied health suites nearby. See our Spring Hill and South Brisbane area pages for local overviews. For practices in general, our medical clinic cleaning guide and physio and allied health guide go further.
What the guidelines say
The NHMRC's Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare include a good practice statement to clean frequently touched surfaces with detergent solution at least daily, when visibly soiled and after every known contamination, and general surfaces and fittings when visibly soiled and immediately after spillage[1]. Environmental cleaning is part of standard precautions in those guidelines[2], and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care treats it as part of infection prevention and control[3]. General practices working towards accreditation also have RACGP standards that cover infection prevention and the practice environment[4].
What that means for a cleaning plan:
- Your practice owns its infection prevention procedures. We clean general areas to the scope you set.
- Daily touch points. If we're not on site every day, your team covers a quick touch-point wipe on the other days.
- Clinical areas. Clinical surfaces, clinical equipment, clinical tasks and clinical waste stay with your staff.
What we clean in a medical or allied health suite
Waiting room and reception - Chair arms and seats, side tables, reception counter and payment terminal area - Entry doors, push plates, intercoms and lift buttons inside your suite - Floors, entry mats and glass
Consult and treatment rooms (general areas only) - Floors, bins (general waste), door handles, light switches and non-clinical benches as agreed
Bathrooms - Toilets, basins, taps, mirrors, dispensers and floors, refilled from your stock
Staff room and kitchen - Benches, sinks, appliance fronts and handles
We do not read, move or sort documents and never handle patient records.
Older buildings and shared suites
Many Spring Hill practices are in older buildings or converted houses, and many South Brisbane suites are in multi-tenant medical buildings. We confirm access, alarm and building rules before the first clean, including where general waste goes and who handles shared bathrooms.
Floors and patient safety
Patients may be elderly, unwell or on crutches. Safe Work Australia lists wet floors as a slip hazard and recommends cleaning schedules and drying floors after cleaning[5]. Mopping after hours means floors are dry before the first appointment.
Frequency
- Small allied health suite: two or three times a week
- Busy GP or specialist suite: usually five times a week
- Suites with procedures: as your practice's procedures require, with clinical cleaning by your staff
We'll suggest a frequency after a quick call or short walkthrough.
Setting up the scope with your practice manager
Before the first clean, we'll walk through a short list with your practice manager:
- Which rooms are cleaned, and which are clinical-only
- Touch points to prioritise in waiting and reception
- Any products your practice specifies for general areas
- How general waste and clinical waste are kept separate
- What your team covers between our visits
- Access, alarm and building rules
That list becomes the agreed checklist for every visit.
Between visits
On days we're not on site, a two-minute routine at close helps your practice stay on track: wipe the reception counter and payment terminal, door handles and waiting-room chair arms, empty overflowing general waste bins, and report spills. Your practice's own infection prevention procedures always come first.
